Can you pop a cats back?

So I was picking up my kitten an of course he wriggles from my hand. I had ahold of his back leg hip back area and he turned himself around and down to jump down and I heard the sound it makes when you pop your back and I kind of felt it in my hand. He seems fine and is walking around and playing and I was wondering if I'm just hearing things or is it really possible for you to pop your cats back?
